It was built in May 1937 by Fellows and Stewart, based on the plans of naval architect Nicholas Potter, also known as the "Herreshoff of the West." The boat is equipped with a 37 kW Perkins engine.

The California 32 is renowned for being a formidable racer and a comfortable cruiser, designed for recreational sailing on the Pacific coast.
